A Suspension Magnet is a stationary magnetic separator suspended above a conveyor belt or material-flow area.

The magnetic unit creates a magnetic field that extends into the material burden. As the bulk material passes beneath the magnet, ferromagnetic contaminants are attracted upward toward the magnetic surface.

The captured material can then be manually removed from the magnet in a suitable arrangement.

For applications involving continuous automatic discharge of captured ferrous material, a self-cleaning overband magnetic separator may be more appropriate.

Therefore, suspension magnets are particularly useful where the amount of ferrous contamination is relatively low to moderate and manual cleaning is practical.
